A day in the world through the lens

¨This is not a story of incredible heroism, or merely the narrative of a cynic; at least I do not mean it to be.¨

Those are the initial lines of the famous book ¨The Motorcycle Diaries¨ by Ernesto ¨Che¨ Guevara. I had this book as my companion for the journey ¨A day in the world through the lens¨ project by the group malayalikkoottam from flickr.com.

My day started little late when the sun was almost perpendicular to my head. I could not control my hunger so on the way had a lunch break at my favorite restaurant at Matunga.

After filling my stomach I headed for my destination with my 2 companions the motorcycle diaries & Canon S2 IS. The Gateway of India and Mumbai was in a very sorry state in the name of renovation. I had this spectacle some 5 months back when I had come here to witness Mumbai festival. This shows how slow is the progress in this most visited tourist spot of Mumbai.

After a couple of photo shoots, got frustrated with the scorching sun as well as the incomplete renovation work, I thought I will go for a ferry ride on the way to the famous Elephanta caves. Hired my ticket for the sculptured caves & boarded the mid-size ferry.

It was not a usual spectacle at the Elephanta island with such a huge crowd. Anyways I proceeded through the stairs & the crowd to the caves. I had 2 hours of photo session here which was interrupted by other tourists identifying me as a tourist photographer for a living. Also by the local security guards disallowing me to use the mini tripod which I was using there, since that will harm the broken, scribbled sculptures beyond repair. To use that tripod I need to take permission from the place which even these guards have never visited nor known where existed.

When the day was about to over I headed back to the gate hoping to capture some evening as well night shots. I tried my hands on some panning shots without much luck. After taking some shots of the gate to be rebuilt in different lights, thought I will call it a day without much luck. On my solitary return journey paid a visit to the maidan (ground) which was called by the name Oval. Fortunately I could take some long exposure shots of the Mumbai University & the High Court building which were built in Gothic style by the British.

Happy after some good shots, finally I headed for the CST railway station to catch the running locomotive to my home. Inside the station had few minutes for my train to arrive, took a capture of the station with moving trains & people to showcase the end of day.

Thus the memorable day ended thanks to ¨A day in the world through the lens¨ project.
